Ten Ukrainian service members return on Independence Day
Event date: August 24, 2026 · Verified: October 23, 2026
Ten Ukrainian service members returned from Belarus on Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Coordination Headquarters announced. The return was the second stage of the combined exchange that began on August 19.
The group included members of the Armed Forces and National Guard. All ten had previously been recorded as missing in action. Two had been missing since 2024 and eight since 2025, according to the Headquarters.
The Headquarters said the returnees would receive necessary supplies, treatment and rehabilitation. Their return illustrates why a missing-person classification must not be treated as proof of death or as excluding a person from efforts to secure release.
Sources and verification
Based on the Headquarters’ official August 24 report and Telegram announcement. The event count is ten; it should not be added twice because the same return appears on both platforms.
