What you can do
Write to a defender or a family
Send a letter of support. With the consent of both the sender and the recipient, some messages are shared publicly as a collective sign of support.
Be present
Families of prisoners of war and missing defenders gather at rallies in Kyiv. We document them and publish the dates we are told about on our Voices for Freedom page.
Speak to your own elected officials
If you live outside Ukraine, you can raise the prisoner issue with the people who represent you. Use official figures, such as those on our numbers page, and cite the Coordination Headquarters. Families of prisoners of war and missing defenders have asked for the return of all Ukrainians held by Russia, military and civilian, in an “all for all” exchange.
Share the facts
Every exchange we report is sourced to the Coordination Headquarters, the President or the Ombudsman, and each report links to the original. Share the entries from Releases and The Fallen, so the people still held are not forgotten.
Protect families
Do not post a missing or captive person’s details, or a family’s phone number, on social media or in public comments. Use the official channels on Official resources for families.
